Correct vet tally on Inland Northwest Honor Flight

The article, “Garfield’s Don Kriebel joins Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.” in the Nov. 12 edition of the Gazette reported 159 veterans took the trip. Actually, the total included 79 veterans and 80 guardians.

Kriebel’s assigned guardian, Bill DeCarlo, a Spokane police officer, volunteered to go. He had never met Kriebel.

The guardians provided help to each veteran on the flight, including 24 who were in wheelchairs.

Inland Northwest Honor Flight covers all costs for the semi-annual trips. The organization is funded by private donations and sponsorship from businesses.

Some guardians elect to pay their own way.

Kriebel expressed his appreciation for the guardians and the representatives from Inland N.W. Honor Flight who orchestrated the trip.

Honor Flight did a great job, with a lot of thought, Kriebel added.
