Tekoa man charged with burglary, theft

Richard Cross, Jr., 44, Tekoa, pleaded not guilty in superior court Friday morning to charges of second degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. Cross was arrested Monday after deputies responded to a report from a Tekoa woman who said her car had been stolen out of her garage. The alleged victim said she had looked out of her window and saw her car go past her residence.

Deputies located the car parked about a block from her house at the residence where Cross resided.

The report said a bicycle was found back at the garage where the car had been parked and the bicycle was traced to the suspect.

Cross was allowed release on his own recognizance. He has a record of 13 prior cases prior to 2005 which involved warrants, but he has not had a conviction since 2005.

His trial date was slated for Oct. 12. As a condition of his release he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
