Two die in one-car accident on Hume Road

A one-car accident early last Wednesday morning, July 15, on the Hume Road near its junction with Highway 195 took the lives of two people.

The sheriff’s report listed the two victims as Jonathan T. Scholz, 37, Steptoe, and Kimberly A. Blowers, 32, Tampa, Fla.,

The sheriff’s report said high speed is suspected to have been a factor in the accident. The two victims were in a Mercedes sedan.

According to the report, the car was fully engulfed in flames by the time deputies arrived at the scene. It was 50 feet from the roadway. First report of the accident was logged at the sheriff’s office at 1:52 a.m.

The scene of the accident was at the Jerry and Danielle Klaveano place which is the first residence at the west end of Hume road north of its intersection with Highway 195.

The Mercedes was believed to have been traveling westbound down the grade and failed to negotiate a curve. It hit a large willow tree in a pasture located south of the house. The Klaveanos pasture llamas at the location.

Both victims were taken to Bruning Funeral home in Colfax.

Scholz is the son of Jonathon and Ginna Scholz of Steptoe. He was raised in Steptoe and graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1995.

After graduation, he resided for several years in the Kirkland area and returned to this area in 2008 to assist on the farm.

Funeral services for Blowers will be conducted in Florida. Blowers was visiting here at the time of the accident.
