Flaying Farmers honor Art Sager at state confab

Art and Colene Sager attended the Washington State Flying Farmers Association annual convention in Richland last week.

Saturday, Art was honored by the state chapter of the organization for his award as the 2014 — 2015 International Flying Farmer of the Year.

Zelda Lewis, Joliet, Ill., was their houseguest from last week Wednesday to this Tuesday.

She is an officer for the International Flying Farmers organization.

Monday, Colene piloted the two of them to Odessa to visit other Flying Farmer members, Stan and Debby Dammel.

Kevin and Dellene Broeckel Burdsall arrived at the home of her brother, Ed and Joan Broeckel, Friday for a visit.

Saturday evening, Norm and Janice Pauls and Jeff and Arienne Pauls joined them for a barbecue.

Kevin returned to their home in California Sunday to go back to work.

Dellene is staying with her sister Janice Pauls from Monday through Friday.

Christi Freeburg, Seattle, spent the week at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast.

She is the daughter of Leonard Freeburg and granddaughter of Charly and Lizzie Freeburg, former owner of the Union 76 service station in LaCrosse many years ago.

Lizzie Freeburg and Vicki Broeckel’s grandmother, Mary Lambert (former Dusty resident), were sisters.

Christi visited in the area with her family’s friends.

She returned home Saturday.

Country Bible Church will hold its annual picnic following morning worship services (10:00 — 11:00) next Sunday, June 14, on the lawn of the Loren Scaggs home in Dusty.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be furnished in addition to potluck dishes.

Anyone is cordially invited to come.

Friday, Linda Hennigar and Jim Moore joined Tami and Jay Banks at the Mariners vs. Tampa Bay team baseball game in Seattle.

Hennigar’s grandson Wesley’s Junior R.O.T.C. unit from Kennewick High School presented the colors at the beginning of the game.

Sunday, Hennigar and Moore attended the 70th wedding anniversary celebration for Hennigar’s uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Berniece Wigen, at the Orchard Crest Retirement Home in Spokane Valley.

Tami and Wesley Banks of Kennewick and Norm and Gloria Erickson of Colfax also attended the event.

Darrel and LaRae Claassen and Karen Broeckel were among the guests attending the wedding of Broeckel’s great nephew, Andrew Nolan and Emily Ovens, both of Colfax, on the farm belonging to Grant and Angie Collins between Spangle and Spokane Saturday evening.

The ceremony took place in the loft of the more than 100 year old barn.

The bride’s children, Lauren, Grady and Holden, were part of the wedding party.
