Rites at school, V-park honor Rosalia area vets

Rosalia marked Veteran's Day with observances at the school and at the Veteran's Park. The Rosalia Scouts in Troop 588 presented the flag at both ceremonies and demonstrated a flag burning ceremony at the park.

The Rev. Stewart Nereim gave the invocation.

Bill and Alice Hoffman and Ken and Vava Jean Hames were recognized for maintaining the Veteran's Park which is located behind the Texaco Station.

Mayor Nan Konishi reported 65 veterans are now living in Rosalia. Christina Ward sang the Star Spangled Banner accompanied by Judy Littleton.

Rosalia Supt. Larry Keller, a retired Air Force colonel and squad commander in the Gulf War, gave the address.

Julie Pittmann, state DAR officer, talked about the history of Veteran's Day, and Walt Rattenbury played songs of the military branches on his saxophone.

The VFW rifle team fired three volleys, and Lucas Engel played Taps on his trumpet.

All were invited to a soup and rolls luncheon after the observance.

In the school ceremony Rosalia fifth graders gave a listing of U.S. wars. Veterans present were Clay Kauffman, Bruce Bothman, Steven Howard, Joffrey Jones, Larry Kellter, Bill Hoffman, Jessie Aguilar, Mark Billings, Kenneth Hames, Gene Henning, John Billings, Joe Horelacher and Shaun Moss.

The vets were presented with flags by the kindergarten and third grade students.

Supt. Keller also spoke at the school ceremony.

Rosalia grads recognized for now serving include Jimmy Male, Justin Gamble, Josh Roe, Steve Morgan, Maritha Adair and Cory Brown.

The second and third graders recited a poem for veterans, and the assembly closed with Engel playing taps.

Rosalia Ladies annual Christmas party will be Dec. 1 at Rosalia United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. with fellowship, door prizes, music and a dessert.

All women from neighboring communities are invited to the event which is sponsored by Rosalia churches.
