Colfax wraps league sweep for top district seed

Colfax netters dropped Davenport in three games Tuesday to finish out a 10-0 run in the NE league competition. The Bulldogs put down the Gorilla girls in three straight games in their last match on the home court. The match also was a senior night to honor Kori Goodwin, Amara Huber and Kindra Kneale.

Davenport traveled to Colfax with a 7-2 record and will finish second in the league race.

Goodwin started the Bulldogs with a nine-point stint at the line, Colfax led 17-6 and Huber went to the serving line and served it out.

Line score for the win was 25-6, 25-13 and 25-14.

The sweep of the league puts the Bulldogs in the top slot for the league playoff which will be at St. George’s Saturday. Colfax will start against the eighth place team in the first round at 9 a.m.

Colfax hosted the Gorillas after defeating Shadle Park in three games. The Bulldogs rapped the GSL team 25-12, 25-17 and 25-17 in the e Saturday show.

Coach Sue Doering said Amara Huber had the standout match against the Highlanders. Huber hit 12-12 serving, and she put down 12 kills.

“They kept changing their defense, and Amara seemed to know where they left the open spot and hit it, “ Doering said.

Colfax defense allowed Shadle zero aces in the three-game match.

The three-game win over the Spokane AAA team left the Bulldogs 3-1 for the season against GSL foes. They defeated Mt. Spokane and Gonzaga Prep earlier in the season and bowed to University in the crossover tournament.

Last Thursday, Colfax moved their NE string to 9-0 with a three game road win at Liberty. The Bulldogs took out the Lancers 25-13, 25-14 and 25-20.

Freshman Carmen Gfeller had a big night against the Lancers with 11 kills.
