Palouse Scenic Byway signs to be installed at 16 sites by year’s end

The Palouse Scenic Byway signs are set to be up by the end of the year.

Whitman County Parks director Tim Myers said at the byway meeting on Monday that although the department is working on some of the wayfinding signs, he’s hopeful all 16 signs will be up by the end of the year. They will be going out to bid as soon as possible.

The Palouse Scenic Byway encompasses 208 miles of rolling hills and farmland throughout Whitman County from Rosalia to LaCrosse and from Tekoa, Oakesdale and Garfield to Colfax, Pullman, Colton and Uniontown. The current map lists individual towns along the byway with points of interest.

Among the interesting sites listed along the byway are Tekoa Mountain, Tekoa Trestle, the Rosalia Texaco station, Barron Flour Mill near Oakesdale, Elberton Ghost Town, the Manning-Rye covered bridge and Palouse Falls which is just outside the county line.

Carol Cooper from Pullman Chamber of Commerce said the new Facebook page, Picture Perfect Palouse, which was started in August, has 845 likes and includes a lot of photos of the county.
