Colfax net squad adds two wins, face Shadle test

Colfax Bulldogs rolled out two more match wins in the NE league this week to advance their league string to 8-0 with two NE rounds left.

Colfax netters are slated to travel to Liberty tonight and then host Shadle Park, which will mark a rare visit to the Colfax court by a Greater Spokane League team.

Last league round for the Bulldogs will be next Tuesday against Davenport, one of the pre-league picks for a strong run in the NE, The Gorillas who will play at Colfax, were rolling on a 6-1 league record at the start of this week.

Tuesday at Ritzville the Bulldog girls defeated the Broncos in three straight; 25-13, 25-12 and 25-12.

Coach Sue Doering noted the match was closer than the line score indicated with Colfax having to scramble to bag the game wins over the fast-starting Broncos.

Kindra Kneale had a strong match against LRS with a 12 for 14 night serving and 11 kills.

The Broncos posted a 4-2 lead in the second game before Kneale came to the line and ran six serve points and Katelynn Scholz followed with another six peg a 13-4 Colfax reversal.

The same thing happened in game three with the Broncos jumping to a 7-3 lead. Olivia Mellor served a run of five, and Kneale followed with seven to flip the game over with a 16-8 Colfax lead.

"We really did a lot of things to keep the ball moving," Doering noted. She noted a "pancake" dig by Kneale in the third game was among the top scramble moves of the match.

Colfax Saturday put down Wilbur/Creston in another three-game zap on the home court. The match was the first appearance for a Wildcat team in Colfax since they joined the NE league.

The line score for the match win was 25-15 25-10 and 25-18.

Colfax again battered the visitors with a run of serving aces. Total for the match was 17 solo shots with Kori Goodwin hitting five.

Olivia Mellor rolled up a 16-17 serving day with a pair of aces. She had a run in the first game and topped it in the second game with a run of seven serve points.

The Wildcats recovered the serve after Mellor moved Colfax to 22 points, and the Bulldogs quickly closed out the last three points.

Katlynn Scholz booked a run on eight points in the third game after the score locked up at 8-8. She hit two aces during the string.
