Trio attends aid class

Healthy Tekoa coalition members Carrie Hubert, Sharon Esquivel, and Diane Harp Sept. 19 attended a "Youth Mental Health First Aid" class in Clarkston. The class covered mental health challenges including descriptions and first aid for depression anxiety, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and attention deficit.

Also covered were youth in crisis, including details about suicidal thoughts and self-injury. The coalition hopes to get more community trained and ready to administer first aid if they notice any of the above behaviors.

John Giudice will complete the training Oct. 3 and hopes to get accepted into a program to become a youth mental health facilitator.
