High bail scratched

Shon’drea Curtis Sims, 19, Kent, was allowed release from jail on his own recognizance Aug. 29 after members of his family showed up in superior court and assured the judge Sims would appear in court when required. Sims had been ordered held on $100,000 bail after he was arrested in Pullman for the second time within a week.

Sims Friday pleaded not guilty to charges of residential burglary and third degree theft. His trial on those charges was scheduled for Nov. 17.

He was arrested Aug. 20 on the charges which allege he took an I-pad and I-phone from a dorm room at Streit Hall on the WSU campus. The occupant of the room had allowed Sims to stay there after he had been released from jail here following his Aug. 15 arrest for attempting to enroll at WSU under an assumed name.

The investigation report on the first arrest alleges Sims used another student’s name to gain admission to WSU after he failed to gain admission the previous year. It said he was admitted to WSU when he used the name of a student who is attending Eastern Oregon University. Formal charges have not been filed in that case.

The report on the second case alleges Sims was informed by a WSU official that he was banned from being on the campus after he was released from the first arrest.
