Fire near Pine Street

Fire crews responded Sept. 2 to a fire report in the timber area beyond Pine Street on the north side of the Thorn Street Hill. The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. by a resident of Valleyview which is above the burn area.

Crews from Albion, Steptoe and Diamond responded to the fire which had spread to trees. The fire was knocked down quickly, but crews spent about three hours making sure brush and pine needles were extinguished.

A crew was also dispatched Sept. 3 to check the burned area for re-kindling. Size of the fire was estimated at about half an acre.
