Serving Whitman County since 1877

Empire Health Foundation funds

Empire Health Foundation announced funding of a project called Seniors Share Your Rural Heritage. This cooperative venture between Whitman County Library and COAST transportation provides free transportation for any senior in Whitman County wishing to participate in the library's Rural Heritage program.

The Rural Heritage collection can be viewed from the library website at http://www.whitco.lib.wa.us and exhibits can viewed in the LaCrosse Market, the courthouse and the Colfax library's basement foyer.

For this project, seniors who were raised in Whitman County, long-time residents, or those with historic photos from the Palouse are encouraged to contact the library toll-free at 877-733-3375. Appointments will be taken for Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon or Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. If transportation is needed, it will be arranged through COAST free of charge.

The agencies were awarded $1,500 as a way of capturing local history while encouraging intergenerational relationships and experiences.

"Our local seniors have a lot of valuable memories to share and our youth can really benefit from being the ones to hear them," library Director Kristie Kirkpatrick explained.

Seniors Share Your Rural Heritage runs from though Sept. 11. For more information, contact Patti Cammack at Whitman County Library or Suzy McNeilly at Council on Aging for more information.
