Stirling Strong

benefit slated

A dinner, silent and live auction to benefit the family of Konnor Stirling has been scheduled for Aug. 8 at the Colfax Golf Club. Konnor, who will be in the seventh grade at Colfax, is the son of Tom and Janel Stirling of Colfax. He was diagnosed with leukemia in April and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane.

Donations of auction items or contributions to the fund are sought by a group of volunteers who are organizing the event under the title Stirling Strong. Officers of the group are Frances Logan, president; Erin Stirling, vice president; Robin Jones, treasurer; and Rachelle Ledbetter, secretary.

To arrange for a donation, contact one of the officers.

Donors who wish to be listed in the evening program are asked to make their donations by Aug. 4.

Wylie, Wild West

return to Tekoa

Western music legend Wiley Gustafson and his Wild West Band will return to the Empire Theatre in Tekoa Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. Now that Gustafson has moved from Dusty back to Montana, his forays to the Palouse are few, and this will be his only concert in the region this season.

Gustafson and his band have performed all over the west, toured Australia and been featured on the Grand Old Opry more than 50 times. Wiley has competed in numerous celebrity rodeo events in cutting competitions. Part of a longtime ranching family in northern Montana, Wiley has taught his niece, Greta, in rodeo events. This year she is Montana State high school cutting champion and will travel to Wyoming for the national finals in a few weeks.

Robotics camp

slated at Colton

An Introduction to Robotics 4H Day Camp will be at Colton School July 21-24 from 1 to 4 p.m, in Room 110. Registration is requested by July 16. Participants will build and operate Lego EV3 robots, learn about programming operating systems, navigate team robotic challenges, and explore the field of engineering. The registration fee is $30 for the Colton camp which will follow a five-day camp at Colfax. The fee covers the use of the robotics kits for the camp and snacks. Camp scholarships are available upon request. Enrollment limit is 12.

This camp is sponsored by WSU Extension in Whitman County. Contact the extension office in Colfax for more information.

July exhibit

at Dahmen

Julene Ewert’s Whimsical Collage exhibit opened Thursday, July 3 at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown and continues through July 27. A meet the artist reception will be Friday, July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Shelly Gilmore, an avid collector of all scraps metal from Moscow, will be a co-exhibiter with Julene Ewert the month of July.

CLUBS & YOUTH GROUPS

Colfax Scouts

Ten Colfax scouts, leaders and parents returned Saturday from a week-long stay at Camp Meriwether on the Oregon coast. The group included four scouts from Troop 550 and six from Troop 595. The two Colfax troops shared one of the camp sites with eight scouts and leaders from Troop 41 in Ephrata.

Camp Merriweather is located near Cloverdale with access to a long stretch of the Pacific coast. One of the unique features offered at the camp is surfing on sand dunes which are located near the camp.
