Rosalia softball team loses 31-20 to Gar-Pal/ T.O.

The Rosalia High softball team is 3-6 overall, 1-3 in league after a 31-20 loss to Gar-Pal/Tekoa-Oakesdale at home Tuesday.

Trailing 28-7 in the fifth inning, Rosalia scored 13 runs to stave off the 10-run rule.

“I told them they had to score 11 to stay in it and they scored 13,” said second-year coach Whitney Bowerman.

Rosalia had 13 hits in the game, including a single and a double from Rebecca Terrell.

Jill Bruce pitched the whole game for the Spartans, giving up just 11 earned runs with five strikeouts and nine walks.

Playing a doubleheader last Saturday at Pomeroy, Rosalia lost the first game 15-4 and won the second, 12-9.

Rosalia has a total of 16 players on the roster, including eighth-graders.

This year the team has three fifth-year seniors in Stacey and Shannon Carrothers and Mackenzie Reddish, who played as eighth-graders.

Also returning from last year’s Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia team are juniors Cassadi Bruce and Rebecca Terrell, along with freshman Hannah Beach.

“We’re inexperienced, we’re not the team we were last year,” said Bowerman. “But we’re coming together as the Rosalia team.”

Overall, Stacey Carrothers is hitting almost .800 while Shannon Carrothers and Sara Frost are also leading at bat for the Spartans.
