Colfax track gets wins at West Valley meet

Colfax track team started the season in a big way Saturday with an entry in the West Valley Invitational. The big meet included most of the teams from the Greater Spokane League, and coach Jason Cooper said he was more than happy with how the Bulldogs competed against track talent from the AAAA and AAA division schools.

Colfax boys placed 10th overall in the big meet, and the Colfax girls placed 9th.

In most of the events, the entry list stretched from 50 to over 70 tracksters.

Top finish for Colfax was a first place by Scout Cai in the girls high jump with a 5-3. That event had 76 entries.

Cai also placed third in the 100 sprint with 13.2 clocking.

She also placed sixth in pole vault with a 9-0 high mark. The she later forfeited out of the last rounds of that event because she was moving among the three events at the time.

Josh Brown also tied for a win in the discus with a personal best sling of 144-11.

The Colfax girls 4 x 100 relay placed sixth with a 53.62 with Parker Warwick, Olivia Mellor, Taylor Larsen and Bailey Mackleit running legs.

The 4 X 200 team placed third with Larsen, Warwick, Mackleit and freshman Sarah Kraut.

Mellor placed 11th in the triple jump at 32-5, and Kraut placed 20th in the 800 with a 2:48 clocking.

Leah Heiner placed sixth in the 400 meter run with a 1:04.2.

In the 100 hurdles, Mackleit placed third with a 17.3. Parker Warwick, who is a freshman, placed seventh with a 17.3, and Mellor placed 14th with a 19.0.

On the boys side, Austin Corean placed fifth in the 100 sprint with an 11.6. The l00 race had 126 entries in the invitational.

The boys 4 X 100 placed third with a 46.0 clocking with Bo Claassen, Cody Fulfs, Dylan Hall and Corean running legs. Cody Fulfs placed eighth in the triple jump with a 36-10.

Coach Cooper said they now have 46 track competitors in action. Assistant coaches on the team are Jennifer Cooper, Todd Neu and Todd Kinley.

Volunteers assistants were Kirby Dailey, Emily Oestreich, and Morgan Willson when she has time while working out for the WSU team.

Next meet after spring break will be a league meet at the next track in Ritzville April 15.
