Hospital highlights

Good nutrition is important for good health. It is especially important for our older population. The Council on Aging in Colfax offers a variety of senior nutrition programs.

For those who are homebound, there is a wonderful program called Meals on Wheels. This service provides hot lunches delivered to the door on a daily basis by smiling volunteer drivers. The volunteers provide social interaction and also a welfare check for the seniors in addition to a nutritious lunch.

To receive the meals, the senior must live within 13 miles of the hospital and be home bound. There is a suggested donation of $3.50 per meal. While the service is available seven days a week, including holidays, you can choose whether you want a hot lunch delivered every day or just a few days a week. We currently have a small number of seniors who receive meals and there are likely many more that would benefit from this program.

Meals on Wheels operates on a shoestring budget and does not get sufficient donations or grants to cover the cost of the program.

To meet the need, the Council on Aging sponsors the March for Meals on the last Saturday in April. The next March for Meals will be April 26, 2014.

If you want to support this important program, you can volunteer with March for Meals or make a donation to the Council on Aging and earmark it for the March for Meals.

This fund supports the Meals on Wheels, the senior feeding sites and senior liquid diet supplementation. Send donations, ear-marked for the fund, to the Council on Aging, 210 S. Main Street, Colfax.
