Bulldog-Gorilla collision tonight

A visit tonight by the Davenport Gorillas at Colfax is expected to key the playoff segment of the volleyball season.

Colfax will host the Gorillas after posting a 5-0 league run and a 25-1 overall record.

Davenport will arrive with a matching 5-0 mark. The Gorillas and Bulldogs had an introductory session a month ago in the title game of the Okanogan tournament. Colfax prevailed after Davenport won the first game and the Bulldogs took the next three for the title.

Saturday, the Bulldogs rolled to Reardan where they stopped the host Indians in three games in the morning for their fifth league win.

“It was pretty much business at usual,” Coach Sue Doering commented on the morning league round.

In the afternoon they took another three-game match against Colville in an extended battle.

A dominator in 2B for the past two years, Reardan now has a young club, and the Bulldogs stacked a 25-6, 25-9, 25-14 win.

Leah Heiner had a run of eight service points in the second game, and Amara Huber started Colfax with a run of seven for an 8-1 jump in the second game.

Kori Goodwin had 26 assists and served 8-9 with two aces and six digs against the defending state champs. Taylor Larsen hit 15 kills.

Colville put up a battle against the Bulldogs, but also bowed in three games, 25-15, 25-23 and 25-18.

“It was really a good match, we had a lot of hitting, but a lot of the win came off defense,” Coach Doering said.

She noted Colfax rolled up 53 digs in the match to stretch out the Colville offense.

Defense became a key in the second game when the Colville club pegged a 17-13 lead over the

Bulldogs.

Scout Cai had some big stops when Kindra Kneale served four points to tie it up. The Bulldogs allowed Colville to edge ahead again at 21-23, but Goodwin came to the line for the Bulldogs and served four for the win.

Saturday’s trip to Reardan followed a Thursday road trip to St. George’s where the Bulldog won in three straight 25-3, 25-5 and 25-4 with Larsen hitting 11 kills and Huber hitting seven.
