Hospital Highlights

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun are the main cause of skin cancer. UV damage can also cause wrinkles and blotchy skin. The good news? Skin cancer can be prevented!

You can take steps today to protect your skin such as staying out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, covering up with long sleeves and a hat as well as checking your skin regularly for changes.

Those changes could include any lesion or mole. Look for the ABCDEs of melanoma – Asymmetry, irregular Border, Color variation, Diameter (usually larger than 0.6mm), or Evolving (A mole or skin lesion that looks different from the rest or is changing in size, shape or color). See your healthcare provider if you see changes in your skin or moles that you are concerned about.
