Locals do well in Inland Empire trap shoot

Several Whitman County trap shooters made a good showing at the recent Inland Empire trap shoot held at the Spokane Gun Club in Greenacres, May 16-18. Colfax resident and Colton Gun Club member Terry Leinweber broke 97 out of 100 targets to win the 18-23 yardage trophy in the preliminary handicap, moving him back to the 24-yard line. Terry only missed one target in the 200 bird singles championships to win A class in a field of 241 contestants.

Jim Dahmen of Colton hit 198 targets in the singles championship, which tied him with Lewiston shooter and fellow Colton club member Mike Rinard for the Veteran’s title. After a close shoot off, Dahmen was awarded the runner-up trophy.

Sean Lewis of Colfax and member of the Endicott Gun Club registered a score of 196 in singles competition and was awarded a trophy for runner-up in B class.

Diane Koppel of Rosalia, a Malden-Pine City club member, broke a score of 93 in the handicap championship, and after a 50 target shootoff, in which she only missed two clays and ran the last 25, was the winner among lady contestants.

Many local shooters will compete in registered trap shoots at the Colton Gun Club June 1-2, Endicott June 8-9, and the Washington state championships in Greenacres June 20-23.
