McCarthy allowed pre-trial release

Michael E. McCarthy, 47, St. John resident who faces charges related to alleged burglaries and car prowls in St. John, was allowed release on his own recognizance Friday in superior court. Prosecutor Denis Tracy said he was informed McCarthy was released from Whitman Hospital Friday morning after being stabilized with a physical condition. He said McCarthy had not completed a court-ordered competency evaluation, although mental health staffers have determined he is not a danger to others. Judge David Frazier said McCarthy could be allowed pre-trial release and ordered Defense Attorney Steve Martonick to make arrangements for him to complete the examination to determine competency.
