Obituary-Catherine L. Crowe

The funeral service for Catherine L. Crowe, 92, long-time resident of Oakesdale, was Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Mrs. Crowe died last Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.

Born Feb. 12, 1920, at Elberton to Leo J. and Mary L. Hubner, she later moved with her family to a farm near Oakesdale where she attended grade school in a one-room rural schoolhouse near their farm and later attended Oakesdale High School where she graduated with the class of 1938. After graduation, she met Clyde J. Crowe, and they were married Sept. 9, 1938, in their home near the family farm. In the spring of 1946 their only child, James Clayton Crowe, was born. Soon after, they moved to Oakesdale where Catherine lived until approximately four years ago when she moved to a retirement center in Spokane to be closer to her family.

Catherine held several part-time jobs over the years, including school bus driver, substitute rural mail carrier, election board member, truck driver during harvest time and others. She was a long time member of the Oakesdale Grange and served as secretary of the Grange for many years. She was a member of the Oakesdale Community Presbyterian Church and an active member of the local bridge club.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, who died in 1985.

Surviving are her son Jim (Toni) Crowe, Spokane; one brother, Arnold Hubner, Anderson Island; three grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.

The family suggests memorial gifts go to the Community Presbyterian Church at Oakesdale, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
