Dahmen exhibit

to feature

potters

An opening reception for the Palouse Studio Potters Guild November exhibit at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will be Sunday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. The artists will be present, and refreshments will be served. The show will run through Sunday, Nov. 25, during the Barn’s regular open hours.

Palouse Studio Potters Guild was started in 2004 and now has six active members. Members explore many ways of working in clay from wheel throwing and hand building to sculpture.

Soulstice will

play benefit

for Dahmen

Soulstice band will perform a benefit concert for Dahmen Barn in Uniontown to celebrate its sixth anniversary Saturday, Oct. 27, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The recommended donation will be $10 with all proceeds going to operate the facility and its programs. A prize will be awarded to the person wearing the best Halloween costume.

Soulstice plays hits from artists such as the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Rolling Stones and Aretha Franklin. The band has performed at this year’s Palouse Empire Fair and also appears at Moscow’s Rendezvous in the Park, Renaissance Fair, and Farmer’s Market, and Pullman’s Summer Concerts.

Band members include Melissa Elkins (vocals), Wendy Jo Peterson (keyboards and vocals), Becky Bitter (rhythm guitar and vocals), Gary Scheer (lead guitar), Robert Rigg (bass), Patrick Adams (drums) and Tom Carroll (harmonica). Many of the band members have played with other local or regional groups over the years.

Red riding hood at Empire

Missoula Children’s Theater will present Red Riding Hood with local students performing at Tekoa’s Empire Theater Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. Admission will be $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for students. Discounts will be available for attending both shows.

Vets program

Royal Garrison School will present its annual Veterans program Nov. 12. The flag will be posted at 11 a.m. sharp. Students and residents will honor veterans in a program open to the public at the Gladish Community Center auditorium in Pullman.

Import craft sale slated

at Pullman

This year’s 13th annual fair trade craft sale at the Community Congregational-UCC Church on Campus Street in Pullman will again feature hand crafted items from around the globe. Dates will be Nov. 3 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 4 noon to 4 p.m.

Products will be supplied by small Northwest fair trade businesses so the sale supports the local economy in addition to improving the lives of impoverished artisans worldwide.

A percentage of proceeds from the sale will be donated to local charities.

One of the favorite projects feature beautiful hand woven and beaded shawls made by the Gypsy women living in the deserts of Pakistan. Other items will be jewelry, instruments, clothing, accessories, baskets, toys, house wares, ornaments, food and dozens and dozens of others.

Bergman, Emma Violet, born Oct. 10 at seven pounds, one ounce, first child to Jacob and Brittany Bergman of Pullman. Paternal grandparents are Sherry and Steve Bergman of Lewiston, Idaho. Maternal grandparents are Teresa and Steve Howell of Lewiston, Idaho.

Keifer, Adam Eugene, born Oct. 11 at eight pounds, one and a half ounces, to Morgan and Daniel Keifer of Pullman. Paternal grandparents are Chad and Anna Boyd of Pullman and Dave and Anna Keifer of Yakima. Maternal grandparents are Steve and Carmen Lorenz of St. Maries, Idaho. He joins brother Gavin, 3.

Nash Lair Daniel was born Sept. 10, 2012, at Deaconess Women’s and Children Center in Spokane at seven pounds, 13 ounces, to Jeremy and Shayla Daniel of Greenacres. Maternal grandparent is Tammy Gayton, Lubbock, Texas. Paternal grandparents are Roger and Lorreta Daniel of LaCrosse. Paternal great-grandparent is Willene Daniel of Sierra Madre, Calif. The baby joins a sister, Gabriella, 2.

Whitman County Library’s Book Club will discuss Jamie Ford’s novel “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” tonight, Thursday, Oct., 25 at 7 p.m. at the Colfax Library. The novel explores the age-old conflicts between father and son, the beauty and sadness of what happened to Japanese Americans in the Seattle area during World War II, and the depths and longing of deep-heart love.

Savvy Saving Seniors is coming to the Colfax Library Friday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. presented by Babs Pfaff from Bank of America. will go over the steps to avoid scams and provide money management tips.

International Games Day is coming to the Colfax Library Saturday, Nov. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. Invite friends and family members for a day of games suitable for all ages.

Latin Fitness Classes are being offered in the Center every Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. through Dec. 19.

Nook Simple Touches are now available for checkout at the Colfax Library through a grant program called eREADS in eWA. Whitman County along with five other library districts will offer the devices with pre loaded titles in popular genres like Mystery, Romance, Bestsellers and more. The Nooks will then rotate through these libraries every two months.
