Hospital Highlights

The hospitals warm therapy pool opened in 1997 and we even have one instructor and a few swimmers who have been with the pool from the beginning. The therapy pool temperature is around 90 degrees. The pool is used by our physical therapists and physical therapy assistant to meet specific goals.

Once therapy is complete, the patients can use the pool on an independent basis. Our pool is reserved for therapy sessions Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The pool has a lift so that we can even accommodate swimmers who are not able to stand and walk.

In addition, the pool is used by the public for both aerobic classes and individual swimmers. We have water aerobics classes two mornings a week at 6:30 a.m. and also Monday through Thursday at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Classes are 45 minutes with 15 minutes of optional hot tub time after class. Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays is open swim at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. is Baby & Me water exploration class. Youngsters from six months to four years can participate with parents. All sessions are $3.

Due to the small size of our facility, we cannot accommodate drop-ins and we ask that everyone pre-register by calling the hospital at extension 445. All swimmers are required to obtain a physician’s release in order to participate in any of the classes offered.

Our lifeguards are generally students, and we have been able to offer a year-round employment opportunity for them. Our former lifeguards have gone on to a variety of professions including physical therapy, medical school, college professor, professional pianist and jazz musician and a journalist.

A current guard is getting ready to head into the Coast Guard and another will start nursing school.

Our instructors also come from a varied background including a public health nurse, a small business owner, busy mom and a retiree.
