Bulldog nets return with veteran lineup

Colfax volleyball season, which went all the way to the state 2B title game last year at the SunDome, will return in high gear with several veterans back for more action.

Now starting her 25th season as head coach for Colfax, Sue Doering will have two of three players who wrapped up last fall’s campaign on the all tourney team. Amelie Bruya will return as a senior setter and Taylor Larsen returns as a junior hitter after being named to the all-state 2B tourney team and the all NE team at the end of last season.

The third Colfax all-stater was Misty Skelton one of four senior starters to graduate off the team. Hannah Harazin, Becca Hardie and Lauren Moore were other senior grads and all had a big part in the 2011 campaign.

Sidney Huber, Deanna Aeschliman and Rachel Robinson also return this year as senior veterans on the varsity. Bekah Kraut is the fourth senior on the turnout roster.

A big boost to the lineup for the upcoming season will be the return of Nicole Sheer who was on the injury list for the V-net season last year as a sophomore after showing a lot of promise in her freshman hear.

Larsen, Sheer, Huber and sophomore Kindra Kneale all point to a lot of power on the net.

Amara Huber and Kori Goodwin are other sophomore returnees who made the state roster as freshman last year.

Colfax and Reardan roared through the state competition at the SunDome last year. The Bulldogs, who posted a 9-4 record on the state entry, and Reardan, who rolled to the SunDome undefeated, met up in the title game. Reardan, which had posted a five-game win in league play against the Bulldogs, took the title trophy cup in three straight. Reardan had six seniors on last year’s title team. But they also had talented juniors in Katy Burge, Kelsey Moos and Chantel Heath. They are expected to leave a senior-year mark on the league campaign this year and are expected to be a contender at state again this year.

Reardan also took the title in 2010 after Colfax brought the trophy home with straight title wins in 2008 and 2009. The Bulldogs lead the overall state V-net title wins with 11, 10 of them since Coach Doering took over the program in 1988.
