Nineteen compete for state DYW title

Nineteen seniors-to-be were on stage Saturday night at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum to compete for the title of Washington’s Distinguished Young Woman. The event concluded with the entrants waiting on stage while the winners were announced by Kendall Earl, this year’s DYW, and Lenne Jo Best, Clarkston’s 1976 Junior Miss who went on to win the America’s Junior Miss title that year.

Lindsay Webber of Colfax, center left, sang “Art is Calling for Me” and was named a co-winner of the talent competition. Webber was also named second runner-up. She is the daughter of Jon and Angie Webber of Colfax. Jordana Dahmen, entrant for Colton-Uniontown, is seen collecting her award for a win in the judges’ interview competition at center right. She is the daughter of Sue and Pat Dahmen.

Kennewick’s Nicole Renard, performing her dance routine at lower left, was the winner of the event. She shared the talent win with Webber and also won in the fitness, self-expression and interview categories. Nicole will be a senior at Kamiakin High School this year. Shayla Robinson of Pullman, lower right, was the other local entrant in the competition. First runner-up was Camiel Bruneel of Moses Lake.
