Eastern awards scholarships

Kaela Dewan of Oakesdale, Anne Fleming of LaCrosse and Heidi Jamison of Garfield have each been awarded a Presidential Scholarship for $2,500 for the 2012-2013 academic year at Eastern Washington University. This award goes to incoming students with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.8 or higher, or a SAT score of at least 1250.

Dewan, daughter of George and Angy Dewan, was a member of the varsity volleyball and track teams and active in the National Honor Society, Drama Club and ASB. She was named Miss Oakesdale Queen and Miss Palouse Empire Fair. She intends to pursue a degree in occupational therapy at EWU.

Fleming will graduate from LaCrosse High School this spring. She has been involved in community service events such as Meals to Go, highway clean-ups, food and clothing drives, Jump Rope for Heart, Campaign Against Malaria, coin drives and benefit dinners. She is also a member of the basketball, volleyball and track teams and served as ASB president.

She intends to pursue a degree in biology at EWU, where she is currently a Running Start student. Anne is the daughter of Darrin and RaeAnn Fleming of LaCrosse.

Jamison will graduate from Garfield-Palouse High School this spring, where she is the treasurer and president of the FFA, a member of the National Honor Society and volleyball, basketball and softball teams, and is involved in the Knowledge Bowl. She volunteers her time for Meals on Wheels and Relay for Life, as well as representing her community as Junior Miss Garfield.

She will attend EWU in the fall as a freshman. She is the daughter of Russell and Sandy Jamison of Garfield.
