Bulldog baseball squad rocked in spring debut

Spring training rust showed up in the final frame as the Colfax nine got rocked at Asotin 10-0 in the season opener Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s spring. We’re still trying to get a good feel for it,” said Coach Mike Parrish.

Starting pitcher Patrick Jacobs put up five strong innings, but early season rust set in the sixth as the Panther bats caught up with his fatiguing arm.

“Patrick pitched a real nice game. He just got real tired there in the sixth,” said Coach Parrish.

With backstop Brent Becker calling the game, Jacobs struck out four in just over five innings of work. Garrett Burke took over in relief to shut down the Panthers.

Burke and Brady Ellis each slapped singles for the only two hits the ‘dogs could tag off Asotin pitcher Josh Trimmell. Trimmell threw a complete game, fanning nine and walking two.

Coach Parrish said first baseman Jamie Bledsoe smoked three wicked balls off his bat, but they went right at Panther defenders for outs.

Colfax puts a young team on the diamond this year, with Parrish starting three freshman in Tuesday’s opener.

The Bulldogs are slated to host Lind/Ritzville/Sprague at McDonald Park Saturday. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, Coach Parrish said the game could be moved to Ritzville.
