Canvas board gives election final okay

All local funding measures received official approval after Whitman County’s canvass board certified the Feb. 14 election results Tuesday morning.

School funding measures for Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Oakesdale, Pullman, Rosalia, St. John, Steptoe and Tekoa all received final tallies well above the 50 percent approval mark. The town of Rosalia’s street levy request also passed with 65 percent approval, over the 60 percent required passage rate.

Final count included 8,046 ballots of the 17,001 sent out to voters for a 47 percent turnout.

The canvass board accepted three of the 65 ballots that were questioned by elections staff.

Two of those were signatures that were deemed questionable by staff but found to match registered signatures by the canvass board. The third ballot was one of two included in the same envelope.

The board rejected 41 ballots that were postmarked after the Feb. 14 election date, 14 with questionable signatures and 10 that had no signatures.
