Quilt shop opens in Palouse

Needles and fabrics, patterns and notions have staked a new claim in Palouse.

Opening on Main Street Jan. 31, Grammy G’s Quilt Shop brings another new business to town, relocating from Viola after three and a half years.

It is now in the former location of Small Town Quilts.

“I always loved Palouse and when the space came available I decided to move in,” said Debbie Goetz. “The people in this town are just awesome.”

The shop is a full-line fabric store and a sub-dealer for Janome sewing machines. They sell all of the necessary items to begin quilting, including patterns, needles, thread, templates and zippers (notions), not to mention cutting mats, rotary cutters and rulers.

“Kind of like a guy and his tool box, ladies have their quilt boxes,” Goetz said.

Granny G’s also offers classes, from beginner to advanced.

The first class at the new location will be Feb. 18, when Sandy Berg of Lewiston will teach how to make a sewing machine cover. The store offers more space than the farmhouse location in Viola. That will allow for expanded classes and kids camps, Goetz said.

Goetz began quilting as a young adult after enjoying sewing in home economics class in high school in Spokane.

“I just like to create,” she said. “I can’t draw so I decided to draw with fabric.”

The shop is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
