Colton takes top SE ticket after jolting 'hawks

Colton’s Wildcats, who tracked Tekoa/Oakesdale through the SE volleyball league race, jolted the undefeated Nighthawks Saturday with a three-game sweep in the championship match of the SE district tourney at Pullman High

Score of the upset sweep for the title was 26-24 25-20 and 25-11.

Jenna Moser had nine kills and Haley Moser 11 assists in the championship match Saturday at Pullman.

Colton, which placed fifth at state last year, has an 8 a.m. start Friday against Three Rivers Christian in the Yakima SunDome.

The Nigthawks bounced back at Pullman to take the number-two ticket with 27-25 25-16 25-14 win over Garfield/Palouse in the last tourney match.

The Nighthawks, who finished sixth in state last year, are booked in the tourney’s lower bracket and face a tough match against Almira-Coulee-Hartline at 11:45 a.m.

The ACH Warriors take to the SunDome court after taking the NE title match over Columbia of Hunters in three games last Saturday at NWC.

GARFIELD/ Palouse went into the final elimination match against the Nighthawks after prevailing through two earlier elimination rounds Saturday at the Pullman gym.

The Vikings eliminated St. John/Endicott in four games at the start of the day. Line score for that match was 25-18 22-25 25-13 and 25-15

The Vikings then kept in the picture with a 25-20 25-14 25-19 sweep over Pomeroy

That elimination round was a rematch of the Viking-Pirate clash on the first day of the SE playoff Wednesday at Colfax. Pomeroy took that win, 25-21 19-25 25-12 25-18.

The Pirates then ran into Tekoa/Oakesdale in the semi round, and the Nighthawks prevailed in a sweep 25-22 25-21 25-13 with Cassiandra Mendosa hitting 15 kills and Kaela DeWan tapping 15 assists.

Colton defeated SJE in the other semi at Colfax, also in a sweep 25-22 25-18 and 25-12.

That put the two league leaders in the title match at the start of Saturday’s program in Pullman. Tekoa/Oakesdale had a 2-0 mark over the Wildcats in league contests.

After posting a 1-1 in the Colfax round, SJE was bumped by the Vikings in the first elim round Saturday at Pullman

Pomeroy eliminated LaCrosse/Washtucna and then collided with GP.

Friday in the state openers at the SunDome, Colton starts opposite the Wilbur-Creston /Lopez Island opener, and Tekoa/Oakesdale starts opposite the Neah Bay/ Moses Lake Christain opener. Losers and winners of the matches will collide in the second round of the 1B tourney.
