On Golden Pond

begins at PCT Oct. 14

Pullman Civic Theater’s production of On Golden Pond will open Oct. 14 with other performance dates Oct. 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. Written by Ernest Thompson and directed by Tracie Brelsford, this Broadway hit is a humorous and heartwarming tale of Norman and Ethel Thayer, spending their 48th summer at the family cottage in Golden Pond, Maine. Long-standing family tension dissolves through an unlikely friendship between Norman and a surprise house guest.

Admission for evenings will be $12 in advance, and $15 at the door. Matinees will be $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Ticket locations in include Neill’s Flowers and Gifts, Wild Ivy, Dissmore’s IGA, and the PCT Box office at the Nye Street Theatre.

Guy-Alboin meet

Annual meeting of the Guy-Albion Historical Society will be Sunday, Oct. 2, in the Albion Community Center with a potluck lunch at 1 p.m. Musical entertainment by Bill Lyons, John Elwood and Sally Burkhart will begin at 2 p.m. The public is invited.

International craft sale

The 12th annual International Fair Trade Craft Sale at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman will be Nov. 5, 9 to 5 and Nov. 6, 12-4. It will again feature jewelry, instruments, clothing, accessories, baskets, toys, housewares, ornaments, food and dozens and dozens of other hand crafted items from around the globe. Products will be supplied by small Northwest Fair Trade businesses.

McCollum will give demo at Dahmen barn

Master technical photographer Jerry McCollum of PalouseWorks Studio will demonstrate the art lighting and reproduction techniques for paintings, glassware, pottery and sculpture at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown October 8 and 9, from 11 to 5.

Fine art reproduction requires special lighting and technical techniques. McCollum has constructed a special mobile studio specifically for fine art reproduction which will be set up in the Dahmen Barn gallery for artists to learn how to photograph their own work. Saturday, he will demonstrate lighting of flat art. On Sunday, lighting and photography of three dimensional artworks will be featured.

He is a multiple award-winning photographer whose work appears in countless books, journals, magazines and ad campaigns. His clients include numerous fine artists in the Puget Sound and Portland, Ore., regions. His own fine art is the cover of the most current phone book for Moscow, Pullman and Palouse.

Watercolor exhibit will open at Dahmen

The Palouse Watercolor Socius will exhibit their annual members show and sale at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown in October. The opening reception will be Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 3. The exhibit continues through Oct. 30. Several of the members will be at the opening reception.Founded in 1974, the group has grown to more than 40 members. Individual members show all over the West and often are accepted into important juried shows. Palus Museum

opens in Dayton

“Contemporary Metal Sculpture and Photographic Imagery of Rural Columbia County” is a new exhibit opening at the Palus Museum in Dayton Saturday, Oct. 1. Feature artist Nathan Riley will be at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m. to discuss his metal sculptures and photography.

The museum at 426 East Main is open to the public Fridays and Saturdays March through December from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum will open at 11 a.m. for “Dayton on tour” Oct. 1.

Belly dance class at Colfax library

A beginning belly dance class will be at the Colfax Library each Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Instructor will be Lynn Johnson. Known as Thee Lady Lynn, Johnson has been dancing and performing with Il Rawazi Baten for almost six years under the instruction of the regionally renown dancer Shaheena Safahari.

The beginning class is designed to provide basic belly dance skills and provide an active venue for all ages and all body sizes.

The class is free and registration is not required.

Rosalia Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club will meet Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the home of MarvaLee Peterschick near Plaza at 11 a.m. for a business meeting followed by a luncheon and tour.Members will car pool following lunch to the Spokane County Extension Office, N 222 Havana.Tim Kohlhauf, education and master gardener clinic coordinator, will conduct the tour and show members the plant clinic along with the “Green Zone” landscape where drought tolerant plants are featured. Humane Society On Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m., Father Kevin Codd will perform a general blessing of animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The blessing will at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman beginning at 1 p.m. All animals in attendance will receive a blessing certificate. The service is free and open to people and well-behaved pets of all faiths.

Dissmore’s IGA in Pullman will host a pet food and adoption drive Tuesday, Oct. 4-10. Great deals will be available on cat litter, pet food and other supplies purchase for donation to WCHS. The society will show off adoptable pets and provide foster home information from 10 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

ART

The WSU Museum of Art will present a career overview of Jim Olson, one of the northwest’s leading architects, Sept. 30 to Dec. 10 .; A graduate of the University of Washington School of Architecture, Olson established is how firm in Seattle in 1966. The office is now known as Olson Kundig Architects.

The exhibit features drawings, models, plans, photographs and a specially built “ideal room.” Reception Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at the gallery with lecture in CUB auditorium at 7 p.m.

BOOKMARK

Meet the Artist returns with local writer Amy Warwick Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Colfax Library. Meet the Artist is free and open to the public, co-sponsored by The Colfax Arts Council and The Friends of Whitman County Library.Only a few days remain to view the Forever Free: Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation Exhibit in the Colfax Library. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Oct. 2, with weekend hours from 1 to 5 p.m.Families are invited to a Free G-rated Movie at the Colfax Library on Friday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.

In celebration to Hullabaloo, the Colfax Library has extended its hours for Oct., 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will offer prizes for children, a special appearance from Slinky the Clown and his famous balloon animals from 10 to noon and Library Book Bear will make occasional visits throughout the day. Pictures by Drader Photography will also be offered from 10 to 5.
