Church donation provides new coat of paint for center

Farmington’s Community Center, a state registered historical building, has received a new coat of paint from Stivers Painting out of Tensed, Idaho. This was made possible from a $10,000 donation from the Farmington Methodist Church for improvements to the center. The church, which disbanded last year, donated their church building to the town of Farmington.

The Community Center was gifted to the town of Farmington in 1985 from the Masonic Lodge. The original building was built in 1882, but two years later burned down.

A new lodge, designed by Dr. John F. Grimm, was rebuilt on the same site in 1908. Most of the labor was done by members of the lodge. The first meeting was Dec. 19, 1908, and officially dedication was April 3, 1909.

The center houses the City Hall and Whitman County Library branch and includes a full kitchen and a large dining hall that can be rented.

Farmington Library sponsors storytime for preschoolers every Tuesday at 2 p.m. Team Club for school age kids meets on the third Thursday at 4 p.m.

This year a new program, “Mom’s Night Out” will be on the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. and go through March.

It will feature holiday crafts and recipes and a book club. Farmington Library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 to 6 p.m.

Farmington city hall is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 to 6, and Fridays 10 to 2.
