U-twon duo faces 2 sets of charges

Two Uniontown men who made a first appearance in court on charges of burglary and theft Aug. 25 returned to court Monday for a first appearance on an additional charges of burglary.

Judge David Frazier set bail Thursday afternoon at $10,000 for pre-trial release for Shaun L. McArthur, 29, and Eric M. Burnet, 24, and the same bail figure was set for the new charge which involved a welder allegedly taken from a residence on Staley Road.

According to a report from Sgt. Keith Cooper, the Staley Road charges evolved from follow-up interviews. The Oak Harbor Freight Mig welder was believed to have been taken from the Staley Road site a few hours after the suspects were sighted at the alleged burglary Aug. 24 on Baker Road in the Colton area.

According to the first report, a neighbor spotted a truck at the Baker Road residence, but the subjects drove off without talking with him. The truck they were driving was spotted later, but the two suspects were not arrested until later in the day.

Deputies yesterday received a search warrant for McArthur’s and Burnet’s residence in Uniontown and located the missing welder. The owner of the welder was contacted. At the time, he did not know it was missing, but he identified the welder recovered in the search of the suspects’ residence.

Aug. 24, according to the sheriff’s report, a neighbor observed a maroon Dodge pickup truck backed up to the Baker Road residence in what appeared to be a loading mode. He went to the house to determine whether the occupants of the truck should be at the house. The occupant of the residence was not at home.

The arrest report said the neighbor located two males and a female. They ignored the neighbor’s questions and drove off at a high rate of speed.

An off-duty deputy spotted the maroon pickup truck traveling on Wawawai Road, about two miles from the Baker Road residence and recognized McArthur. Deputies responded to the scene but were unable to locate McArthur. They were located Aug. 24 in the evening and taken into custody, according to the report by Deputy Sgt. Chris Chapman.

According the arrest report, the woman who was in the truck was identified as McArthurs girlfriend. McArthur reportedly told deputies she was not involved and unaware of what they were attempting to do.

Investigation at the Baker Road house indicated items were disturbed. Rifles which were kept in a closet were found on the floor.

Tbe arrest report also linked one of the supects, Burnet, to a burglary earlier in the summer at the Uniontown Co-Op and a residence in Deary. The alleged Co-Op burglary was not included in the second set of charges against Burnet at Monday’s hearing.
