Gayle and Nancy Startin were guests of honor for the 60th wedding anniversary reception Sunday afternoon at the LaCrosse Community Club. More than 160 friends and neighbors attended.

The cake for the occasion was made by Alyssa Koller, Pullman. Many family members were able to attend including their children and grandchildren Chad and Nancy Startin, Diamond; Evan Startin and Erin Hopkins, Tyler Startin, and Meghan Startin, all of Colfax; Eric and Lois Startin, Brandon and Jill Startin, Airway Heights; Buggy Startin and fiancé Chelsey Leinweber, Colfax; Tammy Nolen and Austin of Midway, Ky. Tammy’s husband, Richard, was unable to attend. Tammy and Austin have been visiting all week and helping prepare for the party.

Other family traveling to the celebration were: Gayle’s brother Darrel and wife Ruth Startin, Spokane, and their son Johnnie of Spokane and their daughter, Roxanne and Keith Clow of the Tri-Cities.

Gayle’s sister in law, Doris Startin, Spokane, along with her son Randy and wife Rita Startin of Ellensburg.

Also joining them were Doris’ daughter, Micki Terrell of Colfax.

Gayle’s sister-in-law, Denise Startin, traveled from Walla Walla along with her son Jim and wife Bev Startin, Dayton.

Traveling from Moses Lake were Gayle’s cousin Dick and Linnette Jones and nephew Max Healey from Ephrata.

Gayle’s niece Ida Mae and husband Marvin Martin came from Kennewick.

Some of the Startin family had not seen each other in more than 25 years.

Old family friends from Gayle’s many years of moose hunting and their African trips attended including Norrine Jelmberg, Othello; Isabella Coon, Tom and Judy Frase, Burbank; Beulah Hemmer, Burbank; Lee and Karen Hemmer, Mansfield; Duane and Judy Cocking, Spokane, and Chic Lehnertz, Spokane.

Several current Hooper residents were in attendance and many former Hooper residents including: Keith and Mary Morris from St. Regis Mont., Paula and Brent Meyer, Pullman; Dale and Helen Mays, Cheney; Janice McKay, Colfax; Pat Flerchinger, LaCrosse; Sara Goude and Hugh Shawgo, Washtucna; Alex and Linda McGregor, Pullman; John Bolles and Mary McGregor Bolles and Kailey, Moscow; Alyson McGregor and husband Mark Olson, Seattle.

Donna Camp, former LaCrosse resident, attended with her grandson and family, Justin and Jennifer Camp and family of Edwall.

Alice Ann Mitchell joined her parents Kira and Doug, Spokane, Saturday, June 25, 2011, at 12:40 p.m. Alice Ann weighed seven pounds, four ounces. Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Cindy Andrus, LaCrosse. Great-grandmothers are Donna Andrus, LaCrosse, and Lynette Guard, Friday Harbor. Alice Ann is the first child for Kira and Doug.

Next LaCrosse Mudfest will be Saturday, July 9. The cook shack will be open and serving up burgers and drinks. All proceeds will benefit the Richard L Roberts Memorial Scholarship.
