Warriors bats sound off in first playoff rounds

The ACH Warriors, defending 1B champions, made the big noise Friday in the 1B playoff rounds at Hartline. The Warriors clubbed 16 hits for a 17-3 win over the Colton Wildcats.

The 1B regional round mixed NE and SE competitors in search of state titles. Four finalists are slated to play regional rounds at Central Valley Saturday with one survivor rolling to the state championship games May 28 at YVCCs Parker field next Saturday.

Second round of the NE/SE scramble at University in the Spokane Valley was rained out Monday and Tuesday and reset for Wednesday.

Colton Friday started at Hartline with a 5-4 win over Odessa/Harrington. The Wildcats won the game in the bottom of the extra eighth inning off an OH error.

Dustin Devorak scored the run after the Tigers’ centerfielder caught a fly but then missed a pickoff throw.

Josh Straughan pitched the first seven frames for Colton and Taylor Spence pitched the extra eighth inning and held the Tigers’ offense in check.

Colton booked 10 hits against the Tigers with Jake Straughan, Spence and Devorak each pegging two hits.

Against the Warriors in the second round the Wildcats pitched Spence, Holdan Druffel and Jake Straughan.

Colton had just six hits in the second game.

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT, which had the top seed out of the SE, was dropped 15-2 by Wilbur/Creston in the first round playoff at Curlew Friday. The Eagles were held to five hits.

Bryce Bennett had the start for the Eagles. Mason Van Lith relieved him in the fifth and Sam Raynor pitched in the sixth.

SJE had five hits in the first round game with Kyle Raynor tagging a triple and Bennett a homer.

The loss put the Eagles up against Odessa/Harrington in the next round which was rained out Monday and Tuesday.

Host Curlew nipped Wilbur/Creston 3-2 in the second game Friday.
