Schusters bag district’s top seeds to state

Michal and Erin Schuster of St. John/Endicott will be the top two SE golfers from District 9 in at next week’s state 1B girls championships after sweeping the district championships this week.

The state championships will be next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24-25, at Meadow Park Golf Course in Lakewood.

Michal took the medal after shooting an 82 Tuesday at the par 72 Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland. Tuesday’s round, combined with last week’s opening round gave Schuster a two-day total of 177.

Erin Schuster shot 91 Tuesday. With last week’s 93, Erin grabbed the two spot with a total of 184. Eagle Erin Bailey also punched her ticket to state, carding a 117 Tuesday to go with last week’s 132.

Nicole Zimmerman of TOR shot 120 Tuesday for a two-day 246 to claim the number 11 spot as a state alternate.

Casey Brown of Tekoa/Oakesdale/Rosalia will be the county’s sole entrant in the boys championships, shooting 85 Monday for a two-day total of 161, good for the number four slot to state.

Ryan Baumgart of DeSales shot a one-under-par 71 Monday to claim the medal with a two-day total of 149.

Eagles John Quinton and Dakota White shot 92 and 103 respectively Monday to miss the state cut with two-day scores of 193 and 204. Cory Brown of TOR also missed the cut, shooting 110 Monday for a two-day 205.
