Colfax girls win big again in last home meet

Colfax girls again Tuesday stacked up a dominating performance in the last Bi-County track meet of the season on the Schmuck Park track when they stacked 154 points for a 95-point edge over Waitsburg/Prescott, an invitee from the SE circuit.

The WP boys showed their power with a 108 point win on their side of the competition.

Reardan, led by veteran Chace Bell, placed 30 points behind the SE winners.

Colfax Coach Jason Cooper said he moved some of his competitors around to different event slots as a move to tune up for the upcoming qualifying rounds for state.

“We’re just looking for some place where we can find a few more points with state coming up,” Cooper commented.

One result was a big win by EB Hatley in the 100 sprint at 12.84.

Hatley has been running in the 200 for most of the year, but returned to the 100 with a little extra coaching.

Reagan Lowe, who battled WP’s Kristin Potter before taking a win in the 400, also clocked a number two finish in the 200.

The Colfax girls relay teams again scored a triple win.

Cooper noted the 4 X 200 team of Amelie Bruya, Hannah Harizin, Hatley and Bailey Mackleit shaved close to four seconds off their best time at 1:51.71.

That clocking puts them in the top four or five teams in the state.

Freshman Nicole Sheer cranked a 28-9 to win the shot-put by over four inches, and the sisters Heiner, Kim and Leah, tied for second in the pole vault at 7-6 behind the 7-9 win by Lauren Gust of Lind/Ritzville.

Sam Thompson of Colfax took a win for the Colfax boys with a 5-8 in the high jump, and Tuffy Hickman hit a 41-10 in the shot to place second.

That launch added 21 inches to Hickman’s best mark for the year.

Eshom Estes of WP won the shot at 43-11.
