Schuster, Brown medal in SJ golf season opener

High school golf made its debut in windy Whitman County Tuesday afternoon with the Pomeroy boys and St. John/Endicott girls claiming top honors in a three-team match at the St. John course.

Eagle Michal Schuster claimed the girls medal with a 46 round on the nine-hole par-36 course. Casey Brown of Tekoa/Oakesdale/Rosalia shot a 39 to take the boys’ medal.

The Eagle girls team totaled 160 strokes to best the Nighthawks’ 219. Pomeroy boys shot 230 to top SJE’s 266 and TOR’s 304.

On the boys side, Joel Myers of Pomeroy shot 41 for second, followed by teammate Riley Bott at 43. Eagle John Quinton shot 45 to tie Pirate Austin Sterren for fourth.

SJE’s Erin Schuster holed out with a 52 for second in girls play, followed by Erin Bailey’s 62. Nicole Zimmerman booked third with a 65 and Margot Kliewer of TOR rounded out the top five with a 74.

Felicity Mapes shot 84 to round out the SJE scores and Nighthawk Lisa Harper wrapped up with an 80.

For the Eagle Boys, Dakota White shot 52, William Knott 52, Dustin Patrick 53, Mason Howell 64, Hunter Fairbanks 66, Alex McCue 70 and R.J. Baltierra 81.

For TOR, Grant Gelhaus shot a 57, followed by Cory Brown 62, Zack Zimmerman 68, Damian Loucks 78, Zane Brown 79, Hunter Gilroy 84, and Cameron Reun 87.
