Colfax girls post big win in Bi-County track opener

Bailey Mackleit and Taylor Lange fly over the first row of hurdles in the first Bi-County meet Tuesday at the Schmuck Park track. Hannah Knaak, right, placed third for the Bulldogs. Jaylene Hall is at left.

Colfax girls posted a 46-point margin Tuesday when five Bi-County teams and Odessa-Harrington collected for the season opener on a cold Schmuck Park track. The tracksters competed in a strong wind which pushed northbound sprinters during the day.

Reardan took the boys team win with a scant half point over the Bulldog boys. The Indians totaled 94 team points and the Bulldogs finished with 93.5.

Freshman Bailey Mackleit took the girls 100 hurdles in a close race with Taylor Lange, for one of the Colfax highlights. Junior Reagan Lowe clocked a win in the 400 with a 1:05 personal record. Lowe was putting down times in that range at the end of the season last year.

Morgan Willson again dominated both distance events. She led the 3200 by more than 50 seconds and the 1600 by more than 22 seconds. Taryn Stamper of St. George’s placed second in both events.

Senior Tuffy Hickman won the shotput and discus events by big margins.

Coach Jason Cooper Saturday called off the Bulldog trip to Ephrata because so many of the team members were sick.
