Last week’s 44th annual jazz festival at the University of Idaho included many local musicians and Canadian visitors from Revelstoke Secondary School in British Columbia who called Colfax home for five days last week.

The Revelstoke band and advisors traveled for 11 hours to Colfax were they resided at the Siesta Motel and breakfasted at the Top Notch (above) for six days.

At top left, Alex Keeney of Garfield/Palouse, received honorable mention for his solo with the Garfield/Palouse Jazz band.

In the center photos, Taylor Mason and Josh Rogers play guitars for Revelstoke, left, and Leslie Opatril performed a flute solo while Tessa Davis directs the B.C. band.

Oakesdale’s Jacey Headley, Jeffrey DeGon and Michael Conklin played Afro Blue from a Mongo Santamaria CD, lower left, and Jeff Kent performs a saxophone solo with the Gar/Pal band which was under the direction of Ruth Vertrees.

Conklin was named outstanding tenor saxophone player and again performed in the Hamp’s Club segment of the Saturday concert at the Kibbie Dome.
