Lamonters gather for Christmas

Lamont Community Church presented their Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 19. Kelly, Rosie and Tracy Melville each played a piano solo of Christmas music, Bonnie Swannack gave a reading and Chet Swift sang a solo, entitled “Mary, Did You Know?”

The junior church members, directed by Diane Cook, gave a skit about the true meaning of Christmas. Young people taking part in this were Rosie and Tracy Melville, Carmen, Lea and Owen Swannack. Clara and Colton O’Keefe, Thomas Wu and Miguel Pineda.

Sunday evening a group of about fifteen singers from the Lamont church sang carols around Lamont.

Dan and Jean Stromberger were Christmas dinner guests at the home of Tim and Arlene Stromberger. There were 25 other members of the Stromberger clan present, including five great-grandchildren of Dan and Jean.

Allen and Diane Cook were Christmas dinner guests at the home of Peggy Miller, Rocklyn. Joining them were Scott and Celest Miller and Elizabeth of Harrington, and Dennis and Sandi Miller, Logan and Kristen, from Kahlotus. On the trip home, the Cooks visited Karla Novotney in Harrington.

Visiting their mother for Christmas were Marty Jo and Keenan Sells, Kiernan and Kyle, Valley, and Melissa and Marlan Schafer, Molly, Sam and Andy, Odessa.

Sunday, the Cooks stopped by the home of Ed and Seiko Edamatsu. Phyllis Edamatsu, Dover, Del., was visiting her parents for the holidays. Diane and Phyllis have been friends since first grade at Garden Springs Grade School, Spokane.

The Art Swannack family had as a guest, Linda Stanescu from Sprague, Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, they were guests at Pete and Sandy Swannack’s home. Tina Swannack from Spokane attended also.

Bill and Bonnie Swannack and Mark and Janet Bowman were Christmas Eve guests at the home of Tom and Holly Swannack.

On Christmas Day, Bill and Bonnie and Tom Swannack drove to Cheney to the home of Todd and Sherry Madison. Dale and Helen Mays, Sid and Barbara Mays and Kelly were also guests there.

Jackie Brown and her daughters Cindy Glorfield and Della Harwood and granddaughter Amanda Harwood helped Jackie celebrate her Dec. 24 birthday with Christmas Eve Mass at Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and dinner at the Spokane House. On Saturday, Jackie drove to Garfield for a crab dinner at the home of Stevie and Ryan Pfaff and family. On Sunday her grandson, Michael Glorfield, hosted a prime rib dinner for Jackie and Cindy, Eric and Gloria Glorfield.

Nita Polda recently returned from a trip to Vancouver, B.C., where she attended a fall convocation at Capilano University to see her daughter, Kris Ann Bulcroft, installed as Capilano’s sixth president and vice chancellor.

Kathy Shields’ family celebrated Christmas Sunday, Dec. 19. Her guests were Billie Jo and Tim Davison and Billie Jo’s family, Ed Shields and family, Chris and Lea Shields. Special guests were Denice Hoffman, Scott Engles and Jessie Adams. On Friday, Dec. 24, Kathy drove to Ritzville for Christmas Eve dinner with Jenny, Michael, Lea and Chris Shields. On Saturday, she drove to Deer Park to celebrate Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 26, with Billie Jo and Tim Davison, Krista Schultz, Ryan and Laura Schultz and children Grace and Miles, Alissa Schultz, Scott Engles and daughter Grace and Tim’s two sons, Cole and Mick Davison.

Fifteen members of the Sprague-Lamont Little Red Hens ladies red hat club met Dec. 23 at the Sprague Community building for lunch with other seniors.

Betty Stone drove to Cheney Thursday, Dec. 23, to spend several days with Debbie and Kevin Gaffney. On Christmas Eve Betty’s family all gathered at the home of Patty and Sonny Etheredge in Spokane. On Sunday Betty, Debbie, Kevin, Patty and Patty’s son, Cody, went to see the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia.” Betty returned home on Monday.

Bill and Stella Melville had Christmas day dinner at the home of Dean and Mindy Melville. On Sunday Mindy’s son, Devan DeLapp and wife Halbe of Seattle, arrived to spend a few days with Dean and Mindy.

Pete and Pat Peterson joined the Mike and Beth Ann Engles family for Christmas day dinner. Other guests and family members were Kristy, Kevin, Kelsey and Kassidy Kock, Steven Engles, Scott and Grace Engles, Alissa Schultz and Gerri Becker.
