Nighthawks, Pirates keep SE net leads

Two more league wins of three games each kept Tekoa/Oakesdale and Pomeroy at the top of the SE net race. The two league leaders are slated to collide next Tuesday at Pomeroy.

Tekoa/Oakesdale has a tough test tonight when Colton visits at Oakesdale. Pomeroy will be at Palouse.

TEKOA/OAKESDALE Tuesday defeated the Spartans at Rosalia in three games, 25-11 25-13 and 25-13 with Cassy Mendoza hitting 11 kills and Kaela Dewan putting up 18 assists. Alexa Overton had five aces for the ‘hawks.

Briann Maley put down four kills and three blocks for the Spartans, and Lucy Irish had five assists.

The Nighthawks Thursday at Palouse had to battle to pull out a 25-23 win in the first game against the Vikings. After that, the Vikings had trouble stopping Mendoza and the ‘hawk back court game.

Mendoza finished with 14 aces, and Myrannda Neill had three kills. Dewan put up 18 assists for the ‘hawks.

The Vikings used a balance attack against the league leaders with Emily Witthuhn, Terrie Taylor and Madisyn Woltering each credited with two kills. Kaycie Adair and Witthuhn were each credited with three blocks.

POMEROY Tuesday defeated LaCrosse/Washtucna in three games at LaCrosse, although the Tigercats took the Pirates into extra points in the third game. Line score for the Pomeroy win was 25-20, 25-12 and 28-26.

The Tigercats actually stacked leads, but faded when the Pirates rotated their best servers into the hitting slot.

Kinsey Bott had 11 kills and six blocks in another strong net game and Haylee Koller had four digs for the Pirates.

Logan Harder had three kills and three digs for the T-cats and Annie Fleming had 14 assists.

Pomeroy dropped Rosalia in three games in the Thursday round, 25-22 25-13 and 25-12 with Bott hitting 13 kills and six blocks. Maddie Grimm hit 23-24 off the serve line for the Pirates.

COLTON also booked wins Thursday and Tuesday. They dropped Touchet in three games Tuesday, 25-13, 25-15 and 24-14 with Mikayla Nygreen and Mollie Kramer each putting down nine kills. Haley Moser had 20 assists and eight aces.

Thursday, the Wildcats stopped LW in three game 25-21, 25-11 and 25-9 with Nygreen pegging 11 kills, and Haley Moser hitting five aces.

Other action Tuesday saw the SJE Eagles stop Garfield/Palouse in three games for Eagle homecoming, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22. Gretchen Van Lith had 15 kills and five aces for the Eagles and Carmen Lust had 28 assists and six aces.
