Cooks attend Garden Springs school reunion

Lamont

Allen and Diane Cook attended the annual Garden Springs reunion and potluck, Saturday, at the home of Ken and Ruth Potter of the Windsor area. Approximately 25 people, most of whom had attended the Garden School, attended. One graduated from the eighth grade in 1936. The school opened in 1889. It sits on a four-acre parcel of ground southwest of Finch Arboretum and the intersection of Interstate 90 and Highway 2. Average first-year teacher’s annual salary was $250 for men, $200 for a women five month term. The tiny school had just four classrooms. It closed in the 1980’s.

The first community potluck at the Lamont Community Building was Sept. 19, with 27 people in attendance. Next meeting is Oct. 3.

Lea and Carmen Swannack were picked to be on the Lincoln county 4H judging team at the State Fair at Puyallup last Saturday. Their team won third in the state.

Dan and Jean Stromberger drove to Edwall Saturday to attend a birthday fete for their son, Bill, at the Stromberger home there. Also attending were Aaron and Sarah Stromberger, Spokane, and Brendan and Lana Stromberger, Pullman.
