All fourteen branches of Whitman County Library will close Aug. 2-8 for maintenance and cleaning. In Colfax, library staff will move books, desks and computers from the temporary location behind US Bank back into the newly renovated library.

The Colfax branch will re-open Aug. 9, with a grand re-opening celebration set for Wednesday, Aug. 11. Culmination of this fun filled day will be a dedication ceremony at 7 p.m. with local dignitaries and donors being honored. It will be hosted by the Friends of Whitman County Library. For more information or to volunteer, contact Kristie Kirkpatrick.

Summer Reading is winding down for area youngsters. If your child read for 10 hours or 10 books this summer (or has been read to), they qualify for a great prize. Contact the library for details and completion forms.

Adults and teens have one more month to complete Summer Reading. By reading and reviewing three books, participants qualify for treats from local sponsors as well as a number of grand prize giveaways.

Most children’s programs at the Colfax Library will be on hiatus through the month of August, resuming on Sept. 9th. The one exception will be a special Jammie Time program set for Weds, Aug. 25.

Parents should plan to bring kids to the library for the grand opening celebration on Aug. 11. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day, a number of fun activities are scheduled. This includes a first look at the amazing rain forest tree in Hayden’s Corner, new computers designed especially for children, a clown, face painting by the Colfax Cheerleaders, a visit by the Colfax fire and/or policeman, the spinning wheel of prizes, Reading Bear, balloons and more. Kids will love it!
