Winona Day brings 37 to Endicott school

Winona Day was June 12, 2010, at the Endicott School Cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 37 people attending. The day was spent visiting. Plans were made to meet again June 11, 2011, same place and same time. Betty Schmick and Helen Jane Hughes of Endicott will be in charge.

Wylie & Wild West billed for Dahmen

Tickets are on sale for Aug. 8 when Wylie Gustafson brings Wylie and the Wild West show to Dahmen Barn in Uniontown for a benefit concert for the art center.

Uniontown Deli will sponsor the Chuckwagon BBQ at noon and the concert begins at 2 p.m. Bring a blanket for the hillside. Some chair seating is available for seniors and handicapped.

Concert tickets may be purchased from The Shop at the Barn by calling or e-mailing info@artisanbarn.org. Advance sale tickets are $30. Admission for children 12 and under are $15.

Pre-concert entertainment is provided by musicians Bodie Dominguez and Mark Holt in the dining area.

Alice in Wonderland slated for PCT stage

Alice in Wonderland, adapted for the stage by Anne Coulter Martens, and directed by Kami Cornwall, will be performed at the Pullman Civic Theatre, July 16, 17, 22, 23, 24 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees July 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. at the PCT’s Nye Street Theatre in Pullman. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door for evening performances and matinees are $10 advance, $12 atthe door.

Budding Rose booked Miss V, Gypsy Cowbelle

Miss V, the “Gypsy Cowbelle,” will appear in concert Sunday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at the Budding Rose Gallery in Rosalia, one of the stops on her first ever performance tour of the Northwest. A seasoned performer, she has entertained throughout America and this year won a coveted featured slot at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev. She also recently acted in a small part in a major motion picture filmed in Atlanta.

For the past two decades, when not roving America, she has lived on a remote ranch in the mountains of Wyoming.

Among her repertoire are such songs as El Paso, Cattle Call, I Saw the Light, Freight Train Shuffle, Dandelion Wine, Strawberry Roan and many more. She accompanies herself on acoustic guitar and a banjo she made herself.

Admission to the concert is by donation with $7 suggested.

Library pajama storytime

Children of all ages are invited to Whitman County Library’s summer Pajama storytime. Kids can wear PJ’s and bring a teddy bear to the library Wednesday, June 30, at 7 p.m. in the children’s area at the Colfax Library’s temporary location on the second floor of the US Bank Building. A healthy snack, books, songs and finger plays will be included.

Saving money session

Whitman County Library June 28 will conduct a saving money workshop at 6:30 p.m. at the CETC building in Colfax. Coupon expert Brandi Maynard will share tips on how to get the best bargains and slash grocery bills. Find screaming deals at local stores while learning to stockpile goods at rock bottom prices.

The aim is to reduce shopping trips and help shoppers become more organized. Participants can learn which websites make shopping a breeze.

Chapter AF met June 14 at Peace Lutheran Church for a salad bar. President Liane Smith reported on her experience at the state convention on Spokane June 4-6.

After a summer break the club will meet Sept. 27 at Ann Marra’s residence with Cathy White presenting the program.

Heaton girl born

A daughter, Cathleen Rose, was born June 8, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, to Alison and Chad Heaton of Spokane. Maternal grandparents are Dennis and Eileen Roe, Colfax. Paternal grandparents are Bonnie and Jim Ferguson, Sequim and Max and Lori Heaton, Sooke, British Columbia. Weighing nine pounds, four ounces at birth, the baby joins siblings Kaila, Mari, Christiana, Sairsha, Nathanael and Fiana.

A celebration of patriotism will be at Eells Park in Colfax next Thursday, July 1, at 1 p.m. with Whitman County Library hosting. Patriotic projects for the day include crafts, stories, music and marching, fun for kids.

Additional summer programs are happening in all 14 Whitman County Library locations. Check the library’s online calendar at for specific locations, dates, times and programs.

Remember, free wireless computer access is available from Whitman County Library. The service is provided with the assistance of federal LSTA funding and support from First Step Internet. Residents s are invited to use the tables now in front of the remodeled library or outside any branch library to access this free community service.

Magician and entertainer Jeff Evans will perform today, Thursday, at 1 p.m. at Eells Park. Next week, kids will celebrate Independence Day with a red, white and blue parade, as part of a six-week summer series, Make a Splash - READ.

The library has recently added the four volume series, The Precious Lies of Madeleine de Scudery by Eleanor Knowles Dugan. Colfax resident Ann Marra designed the book and its cover. Precious Lies tells the story of the famous 17th century European novelist and the utterly unforgettable paradox of her life, both admirable and infuriating.
