National Nurses Week

Theme for this years’ National Nurses Week is: “Nurses: Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow.” Whitman Hospital and Medical Center has over 80 registered nurses and nursing assistants that help provide exceptional care to our patients. The nursing staff is here to respond to needs in the emergency department, help deliver a babies in our state-of-the-art delivery rooms, provide care and comfort before surgery and help through the recovery process.

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Whitman Hospital and Medical Center will kick off the week today, Thursday, with a luncheon for the nursing staff and the staff from our continuum of care partners. We are working to build a seamless process for our patients as they transition from the hospital to home, to home with home health, to assisted living, to a skilled nursing facility or other care center.

We have a different celebration each day. We will end our week May 12 with a birthday cake for all staff to celebrate Florence Nightingale’s birthday.

Nursing, often described as an art and a science, is a profession that embraces dedicated people with varied interests, strengths and passions because of the many opportunities the profession offers.
