Peggy Bryan and Lisa Beckley show support quilts at tailgate party after Susan B. Komen run in Spokane.

Approximately 36 friends and family members of Peggy Bryan and Lisa Beckley and the late Laurie Zimmer participated in the Susan B. Komen Race for a Cure on Sunday, April 18, in Spokane. The team name was Up, Up and Away in honor of Laurie’s birthday balloon ride last summer. Everyone gathered for a potluck tailgate after the race. At that time Peggy and Lisa were presented with surprise quilts constructed from fabric and materials donated by their friends and family. The quilts were assembled by Cindy Wigen, Alice Mackleit and Rita Ackerman.

Norma Gibson, Mike Stine, Eddie Thompson and Ron Hopkins are practicing track and field events with the Whitman County Cougar Special Olympic team. They practice every Saturday morning on the Lincoln Middle School track in Pullman. They will be “going for the gold” at the Spring Games May 1 at the Eastern Washington University track.

Helping the team members with transportation this year are Di Brink, Tom Cauley, Dionne Evans, Jim and Sally Hopkins, Lois Startin, Cheree Thompson, Patty Meyer and Leslie Thompson.

Lacrosse Community Pride reports a very successful weekend with sales and donations topping the $5,000 mark. Donated raffle items are available for viewing throughout the town.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at various locations or directly from any committee member. The raffle drawing will be at 1 p.m. in the Lacrosse Park on Farm Fest Saturday. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Other fundraising events are being planned.
