The fifth annual Christmas open house and concert at the Bank Left Gallery, “Christmas Spell,” will be Dec. 5 from 1 to 8 p.m., with live music by pianist Caroline Germain, vocalist Nancy Grunewald, jazz musician Geoff Allen, and others.

The gallery will feature handmade Christmas ornaments, one of a kind textiles, woven jewelry demonstrations, paintings, and Christmas niches by local artists Cori Dantini, Nelson Duran, Dottie Jo Kite, Jocival Ferreira and Kate Pierson.

Dahmen barn receives

$5,000 stimulus grant

Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown was recently granted $5,000 from federal stimulus funds, the American Recovery and Reinvestment through the Washington State Arts Commission. A total of $285,000 was distributed among 24 non-profit organizations throughout the state to fund art jobs.

The $5,000 award to Dahmen will support the planning and promotion of programs and events at the barn and keeping the facility running.

Dahmen Barn provides studio space where visitors can watch artists as they create and purchase their work directly. The facility also provides a venue for a new exhibit of local art each month and performances by local musicians.

Audition dates slated

for Guys & Dolls play

Regional Theatre of the Palouse auditions for the musical “Guys and Dolls” are slated for Dec. 1 in Moscow at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and Dec. 2 and 3 in Pullman at the RTOP theater, 122 N. Grand Ave. All auditions run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Actors should come prepared with a short song and sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.

Seven women and 12 men between 17 and 60, as well as gangsters, hot box dancers, Salvation Army evangelists and Cuban partygoers will be needed. Performance dates will be April 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24.

Auditions for the play “Enchanted April” will be Dec. 14 in Moscow at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and Dec. 15 in Pullman at the RTOP theater. All auditions run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Actors will be asked to read from the script. Performance dates are Feb. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20.

All actors auditioning for both shows may be asked to attend callbacks.

Colfax library services and programs are now available in our temporary home at the rear of the US Bank building. We have public computers, a small collection of popular items. Call ahead, or order online if you want to have requests waiting at the desk for pickup. Book and video returns will remain in their convenient location in front of the library. The Colfax Library will continue to be open seven days a week to serve you.

Whitman County Library System will be closed Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving. Library materials will not be due during the closure but online services and book drops are available to request items or return them.

Children’s Storytime programs in Colfax are each Thursday with Baby Time for ages 0-2 years from 10:10-10:30, Toddler Time for ages 2-3 from 10:30-11:00 and Preschool Time for ages 4 and up from 11-11:30.

Play and Learn Day time for infants, toddlers, young children and those who care for them is Fridays from 10-11:30 in the rear of the US Bank Building. For information about children’s programs, contact Sheri or Nichole at 397-4366.
