    COLFAX - Prior to the first expected snowfall of the season, Whitman County Public Works advised school superintendents, post offices and the public about the policies regard snow removal. First priority is for paved county roads. Second priority is for remaining school bus and mail routes. Final is other access roads.     COLFAX — As if being the victim of scammers once wasn’t bad enough, citizens are now being targeted and falling prey to fraudsters using the information from the past scam. Police Chief Bruce Blood reported recent fraud cases where the prey had been victimized about a year prior. The scammers used the information from that fraud to create credibility in the new scam.     MALDEN –– Controversy continues over whether the Malden siren should have been used to warn the town during the Labor Day Fire. The siren and the fire station burned, along with 70 percent of the town's structures. The fire call went out that day at 11:58 a.m. Arriving at the station were two volunteer firefighters.     COLFAX –– More than 54% of the approximately 24,000 Whitman County ballots have been returned one week before election day. About 11,000 are already processed. “It’s been really smooth,” Auditor Sandy Jamison told the Gazette, adding people who have come in to the elections office have been courteous. Robinson is a 1969 Colfax High School graduate, and recently moved into the condominiums from Seattle, where she has lived for 16 years.
