    COLLISION IN S CURVES Two people were transported by ambulances to Whitman Hospital in Colfax Friday morning from the scene of a collision on Highway 195 just south of the Parvin Road intersection. Colfax ambulances and a fire crew responded to the scene, along with rural fire district volunteers from Steptoe and Albion.     Sun shines through the newly-trimmed Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa Oct. 7. In September, the town spent its first $13,000 from the Goldenrod Cemetery Perpetual Care Endowment Fund to hire M.J.     A four-week program designed to help people cope with memory loss will begin Nov. 3 in the Educational Building of the Whitman County Hospital complex at 1200 W. Fairview Street in Colfax.   • Student contest on Korean War ends Nov. 30

    Washington students in grades 6-12 have until the end of November to take part in a contest sponsored by the Office of Secretary of State’s Legacy Washington program. The contest encourages students to explore the question of how the Korean War affects Washington state today. Entries can be submitted as writings, film projects or two-dimensional art.     Wanda Elaine Bull Wanda Elaine Bull, 93, died Oct. 12, 2017, in Moscow. At Wanda’s request, there will be no funeral service. Born April 17, 1924, at Potlatch, to John and Myrtie Sinnett Bull, she grew up in Potlatch and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1942. Wanda worked at the St. Ignatius Hospital in the laundry room and then at Wallace Grain & Pea Co. in Palouse before returning to the family home to help her parents.     LaCrosse Outreach Thrift Store has re-opened after a two-week restoration and cleaning. Several features have been added in an effort to interest those who have not experienced the thrift store. The book department has been organized to display the hardcovers and mostly new paperbacks. The main room will feature collectibles and quality figurines.     The landfill cells project at the Whitman County's Waste Transfer Station advanced Tuesday with choosing of a contractor. M.A. DeAtley of Clarkston, with a quote of $186,925, will build sample ports onto 11 gas vents across cells No. 1, 2 and 3 to use for monitoring methane gas escaping from the sealed cells, which were filled with garbage from the 1970s to the early 1990s when the landfill operation switched to hauling composted waste to a regional landfill.
